Case Study
Seven Seas Ltd, the well-known health-care product manufacturer, engaged us in October 2010 to assist in delivering the required EMS audits in the lead up to an ISO14001 re-certification audit. The audits and reviews carried out over a period of 12 months included compliance, waste, procurement, hazardous substances storage, operational control, and monitoring / measurement. These were carried out to the satisfaction of the MERCK Group EHS requirements.
Environmental Auditing, Reviews and Project Work
Audits:
We are Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) accredited environmental auditors.
Many organisations have a need for environmental services that may or may not be linked to an EMS. For example an organisation may wish to understand its risks in relation to non-compliance with environmental legislation. Such audits systematically gather key information, presenting the findings in a report for management to clearly assess both environmental performance and potential improvement.
An Environmental Management System (EMS) requires regular auditing in order to satisfy certification requirements over a three year cycle. This can be related to any of the ISO 14001 clauses. Examples of these include compliance, operational control, improvement programmes, and the identified environmental aspects / impacts.
Reviews:
Reviews are in many ways similar to audits, but are normally carried out when it has already been identified that something needs to change. An example of this is when an organisation is considering the merits of implementing an EMS, but does not understand the full implications. An Initial Environmental Review, recommended by ISO 14001, provides the company with an assessment of this, recommending a way forward for implementation. Other examples where reviews may be undertaken include carbon management, energy efficiency, renewable energy potential, raw material reductions, supplier performance, contractor awareness etc.
Project work:
Organisations are increasingly involved in environmental projects and we have the capability to deliver many such projects either working independently or as part of a team. Our experience ranges from feasibility studies for the development of environmentally-related new businesses to direct involvement in renewable energy projects and carbon reduction programmes.
